“App packaging and app deployment in Intune can be a learning curve but is essential to capitalizing one of the product’s most useful features”

The Microsoft Store for Business is a great way to deploy applications to Windows 10 devices using Intune and only takes a few steps to configure. It also can help you avoid app security vulnerabilities and simplify app management.

After setup, you can share and manage apps directly and users can access their company portal to download approved optional apps.

Note that there are other capabilities in the store that aren’t covered in this article. With this article, we just want to cover setting up the store and go over a few common tasks you’ll want to take advantage of.

The instructions are the same whether you are setting up Microsoft Store for Business or Microsoft Store for Education.

You’ll need to be an Intune Administrator to complete the app installation.

From your Microsoft Intune console navigate to Tenant Administration

  • Select Microsoft Store for Businessunder Windows

Navigate back to Microsoft Store for Business in Intune

  • Click Sync

  • Monitor the status of the Sync under Notifications

Once complete Click on Apps

  • Select Windows

  • All the selected apps that you choose will show up here ready to assign to users and/or groups

The best things about this process is that the icons, description, and install information is already there since these are apps directly from the Microsoft Store and only need to be assigned.

Using Microsoft Store for Business to uninstall default apps like Xbox, Xbox Game, and others on Windows 10 devices

Have you wanted to clean up the local machines that you deploy to your environment without having to touch each device one by one? Well, now you can use the same process listed above to uninstall apps from devices.

When looking at your Windows device fleet, you may want to remove Xbox, Xbox Game Bar, 3D Paint, Microsoft Solitaire Collection, or other default applications.

It is possible to achieve this by adding these applications, or others that are already on your Windows 10 devices, to your Microsoft Store for Business. Once added the applications will show up after a sync. To uninstall them simply assign a group of devices or users under Uninstall rather than Required or Available and Microsoft Intune will do the rest.

This is also a great process for Autopilot devices as during the OOBE these applications can be removed during setup, eliminating the need to remove them later.
