China’s second-largest mobile firm is trialling Kiwi-made mobile and wi-fi software. It is understood to be close to signing a deal with Auckland mobile tutoring firm Mobile Mentor. The deal would see it “mentor” China Unicom’s customers in smartphone use. Telcos in China will use Open Cloud software to deploy up to 10,000 wi-fi hotspots in Shenzhen and Changchun in a three-month pilot. Nokia Siemens bought a minority stake in Open Cloud last month for $8.5m.
