A SMART CITY NEEDS A SMART APP
Sunshine Coast Council is on a journey to building a “Smart City” with integrated assets and facilities to provide better information and services.
The Council required a mobile app to augment the Smart City initiative, to allow engagement with residents and visitors to the region, providing rich information and digital access to council services.
BLUETOOTH BEACONS & AGILE APP DEVELOPMENT
Mobile Mentor worked closely with Sunshine Coast Council to develop a public app for the regions residents and visitors.
Leveraging a Hybrid app development framework and collaborating with Council in an Agile approach Mobile Mentor were able to deliver a first iteration in a timeframe of weeks. Over the past 4 years we have worked with the council releases to deliver subsequent releases of the app to expand its functionality and the Council’s digital capability.
IMPROVED EXPERIENCE FOR VISITORS AND RESIDENTS
The app collates an extensive amount of data providing residents and visitors to the Sunshine Coast information about facilities & events, council contacts and provides access to submit service requests. In addition, the solution is using beacon technology which the council is implementing across the region (nature trails, CBD, galleries, airport etc.)

integration with public warning systems to provide public service announcements such as storm warnings or road closures due to flooding.
OUTCOME
All employees and contractors are using the 3 apps for inspections, maintenance and reporting to the airports. Inspections are performed daily, weekly and quarterly depending on the type of air bridge and the safety requirements of each airport. Airport Equipment continues to attract new clients and grow its reputation as an innovator.
